Introduced by the United Nations in 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) constitute a set of 17 goals designed to transform our planet by 2030. These SDGs chart a path toward a better world, addressing issues such as quality education, reducing inequality, and promoting concrete and feasible responsible consumption and production. The SDGs represent an exceptional opportunity to drive social change and leave a lasting impact on our environment.

Environmental Sustainability

  • We are in the process of implementing the BIOSCORE tool to manage and report sustainability. This tool serves as a benchmark that ranks establishments based on a new criterion that adds value and communicates the hotel's and restaurant's commitment to society and the environment.
  • We apply the 3R Rule (Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse).
  • We create local wealth by offering our clients experiences with suppliers deeply rooted in our land (guides, transportation, restaurants, etc.), ensuring they are local professionals connected to our region.

    Social Sustainability

We contribute to various projects, embracing social responsibility. We collaborate directly and altruistically with organizations such as:

    • RAMAL Asturias (Mentorship program supporting senior women in the workforce).
    • ENFOCA Talento (Avilés City Council's Mentorship Program for the employability of women graduates: YouTube Link).
    • EMBURRIA, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting functional diversity and promoting an inclusive community in Cangas de Onís (www.emburria.org).

We actively participate in forums, working groups, associations, and conferences related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a way to raise awareness and contribute our efforts to a better future.

Sustainability Tourism Certification S by ICTE (Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality)

The Tourism Sustainability Certification has been implemented by the ICTE (Spanish Institute for Tourism Quality) to assist establishments, companies, and destinations in Spain in the integration of the Millennium Development Goals.

The Tourism Sustainability Mark is obtained when the tourism organization complies with at least one of the following two standards:

    • Technical Specification for the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in tourism organizations.
    • UNE-ISO 21401:2019 Sustainability Management System for accommodations.

Certification presented by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Graciela Blanco, and the President of the Spanish Institute for Tourism Quality (ICTE), Miguel Mirones.

This certification addresses aspects such as improvements in purchasing planning for waste reduction, the promotion of energy efficiency, training in sustainability, attention to functional diversity, the adoption of social responsibility programs, or measures that enhance the quality of life of individuals working in these establishments.

How do we offset our carbon footprint?

    NATURE PHILOSOPHY

Every day, individuals and companies generate greenhouse gases through their activities, which accumulate in the atmosphere, contributing to global warming.

To measure this impact, the carbon footprint is used: metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) equivalent to the emitted gases. The best way to offset our carbon footprint is by generating oxygen to compensate for CO₂ emissions. For this reason, we take steps to minimize our impact.

    • Planting Trees at the Tierra del Palacio de Nevares: apple trees, vineyards, hazelnuts, and cherry trees. With every tree, we aim to return oxygen to the land and absorb the CO₂ that is stored in the trunk, branches, leaves, and roots during the photosynthesis process.
    • In 2024, two tree-planting actions were carried out: 2,600 additional trees were planted, compensating for the carbon footprint over 9 hectares. The plantings included hazelnuts, cherry trees, and guindos, along with native riparian trees in the area.
    • At Tierra de Nevares, near Puebloastur, there is a plantation of 1,500 apple trees of traditional Asturian varieties, a native forest of 1,000 oaks over 5.5 hectares, and 250 additional riparian trees in 1.5 hectares. The vineyards cover 15,000 plants across 5.5 hectares.
    • In Cofiño, there is a forest of 7,000 chestnut and oak trees—a native forest—and Mencía variety vineyards that account for 3,000 plants over an area of 1 hectare.
    • In total, 30,350 trees have been planted, which offset approximately 910,500 kg of CO₂.
    • We are actively promoting and participating in the SLOW FOOD Asturias movement: proximity products are the stars of our gastronomic offerings. We buy from local suppliers and encourage the Km 0 initiative.
